PARXET MARQUES DE ALELLA WHITE WINES OF ALELLA
Parxet was founded in 1920 and today is a combination of these original cellars, located in the Roman town of Tiana, and the modern winery in Santa MarÌa de Martorellas. These two locations which make up the winery are contrasts of one another ‚ Tiana looking out sea, while Santa MarÌa looks to the woods; Tiana with the modernist residential atmosphere of the 1920's, Santa MarÌa the
sobriety of its vineyards. Two versions of Alella which are found in its wines.

Don Juan Pel·ez Fabra, the present MarquÈs de Alella, grew up among the vineyards and wines of his grandfather, the original MarquÈs de Alella. The title first appeared on the labels of an Alella wine at the end of the 19th century, and not coincidentally, this wine won them their first prize at the Agriculture show in 1891. It was in the early 1980's that Juan Pel·ez met Ismael Manaut, businessman and native son of the area. Both men agreed on a plan to develop the Alella region, which was considered in the first half of this century to be the most prestigious in Spain.

Not only was this new partnership the first to bring revolutionary technology to a D.O. which was on the decline for many years, they were also successful in convincing the Consejo Regulador to change the requirement of wood aging for white wines, thus bringing about the new era of fresh, young and exciting wines from Alella. They are also one of the first cellars to successfully introduce lower temperature fermentation and promote a drier, more elegant style of wine.

THE VINEYARDS

Parxet has dedicated itself to preserving the Classic grapes of the region - Pansa Blanca (Xarel-lo), Macabeo and Parellada - while also identifying which other varieties might to well in this climate and soil, namely Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Due to differences in soil and climate, the Pansa Blanca produces wines with more potency and character than the same variety in the PenedÈs.
