[The Wine] [Wine Reviews][Where to Buy]
Inside, 2,000 square meters are divided into four plants, which are dedicated to winemaking, storage, bottling and aging. Since the primary function in the building is aging and bottling, this facility is equipped with tanks that have epoxi-resin covers for wine storage, American oak casks for barrel aging and a high speed bottling line. In keeping with this family's philosophy of constantly upgrading and improving quality, Cosecheros y Criadores completely renovated the winery in 1987. The winery is located off the connecting road between the village of Oyón and Rioja's capital, Logroño. This facility, together with the highly regarded Bodega Martínez Bujanda and the soon to be completed Finca Valpiedra, established the Martínez Bujanda family as one of Spain's leading wine producers. Again, in their never-ending quest for improvement, the Martínez Bujanda family recently undertook a massive remodeling and enlargement of the old cellar. This included installation of a state-of-the-art high-speed bottling line which is housed in a spectacular room dominated by the traditional wooded timber ceiling, and thus serves to illustrate the family philosophy of combining tradition with technology. The enlargement consists of a pavilion where long term bottle aging and stocking of the final product will take place. This facility has a capacity of 2,000,000 bottles. They have also added a basement plant for barrel aging with a capacity of 4,000 Bordeaux barrels each holding 225 liters and all made of America Oak, and a pavilion for storage in stainless steel tanks that now totals 3,745,000 liters in capacity. Lastly, they now have a modern stabilization plant containing seven isotherm tanks, each of which contains 25,000 liters. |
