Valpiedra Wine Reviews |
[Finca Valpiedra]
[The Vineyards] [The
Wine] [Where to Buy]
"Opaque
purple-edged black. Rich, voluptuous, intense, and spicy, with guts, grip,
and complexity. Very tannic now, but with fruit, acid and tannins in balance."

Finca Valpiedra Reserva 1994, Single Vineyard Estate,
Rioja - Cellar Selection!
"Saturated opaque ruby purple cast. Moderately full-bodied. Balanced acidity.
Highly extracted. Moderately oaked. Moderately tannic. Anise, chocolate.
High-toned aromas lead to a thick, rich palate. Full and luxuriant with
tannins that grab hold on the finish."
Wine Enthusiast, May 1999
Finca Tempranillo Reserva 1994
"Generous and potent, a full complement of
fresh acidity, firm tannins, oak and fruit combine into an explosive finish.
A brilliant Rioja ... The Martínez Bujanda family, who produce
consistently excellent estate-bottled wines under the Conde de Valdemar
label, have brought out some remarkable special bottlings in the past.
And this may their best effort yet. It has the power and grace tempranillo
more often achieves in the best of the Ribera del Duero vineyards, rather
than the heady softness of many super-ripe efforts in Rioja. The color
is simply gorgeous. In the aroma, the oak not only frames the fruit, it
seems to grommet it into place; with time, that oak should be easily absorbed
by the substantial fleshiness of the fruit. Generous and potent, a full
complement of fresh acidity, firm tannins, oak and fruit combine into
an explosive finish. A brilliant Rioja, this should be fascinating to
track as it ages into complex maturity."
